“Murder As You Like It” Mystery Conference review (8/19/2017)

I had the great pleasure of attending a mystery writer’s conference sponsored by the Mechanicsburg Mystery Bookshop  < https://www.mysterybooksonline.com/ >

Murder As You Like It is a one-day conference for mystery readers/fans. It’s a chance to rub elbows with your favorite authors and to meet new authors. Authors will talk about writing their novels and you’ll have a chance to ask questions.

Held at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg, the conference was broken down into three main sessions with authors Philippa (Pip) Ballantine and Tee Morris (husband and wife duo) serving as the luncheon keynote speakers. (Victorian era steampunk mystery series)

Session 1: how authors manipulate their characters to get the story they want.

Session 2: “speed dating” with authors (round robin Q & A with authors serving on both session 1 and 3 panels.)

Session 3: writing mystery series vs. stand-alone mysteries

Featured authors: Barbara Early/Beverly Allen, Don Helin, Nancy Hughes, Eleanor Kuhns, Jane Kelly, Greer Macallister, Dennis Royer and Randall Silvis.

VERDICT?  The conference was engaging and entertaining and packed full of great information for new authors, seasoned authors and mystery readers alike.  I would DEFINITELY recommend this conference to others and plan on attending any future murder mystery events.

Hot Lieu

“I was telling Mike here that after three months the idiots in blue are still no closer to catching the shooter.”  Jud had grunted and he continued “They say his partner, that hot piece of ass Lieutenant, lost her damn mind.”  Ann balled up her fists.  Mike laughed a bit too loudly.  “So, Jud….where’s our cut?”  Ann crouched low and peered into the window.  With the lights on inside the factory it would be impossible for the three men to see her.

Gus: AWOL

Fry smiled to himself.  God he loved Ann Graves.  He brushed his hand across his chin and up the left side of his face deep in thought.  Wow, I didn’t realize I was sporting a fur coat.  He made his way into her master bath to grab a quick shower and got a good look at himself in the mirror.  ‘Mountain man’ barely began to cover what he was seeing.

Ann really must love him because she made no mention of the creature that now lived on his face.  Right at that moment he decided to shave.  Fry didn’t like how old this beard made him look.  He sidestepped to the shower to fetch his razor and nearly stepped right into the low bin of kitty litter between the glass enclosed shower and the sink.  He cursed softly.  Where was that cat, anyway?
